Default Polling Interval: :5 minutes. Note that by default, five minutes is the shortest interval that EC2 data is reported by CloudWatch. You can optionally enable detailed monitoringsuch that data is reported by CloudWatch every one minute – in this case you can make the polling interval shorter in the LogicMonitor datasource definition.

Additional Configuration Necessary?: No. This datasource will automatically apply to the EC2 instances discovered for your AWS account and start collecting data.

Note that LogicMonitor’s native datasources provide more comprehensive metrics than what CloudWatch reports for EC2 instances. Because of this, it may be beneficial to install a collector in your AWS environment (on an EC2 instance) and add your EC2 instances as regular devices in order to monitor these metrics.

To comprehensively monitor the health of your EC2 instances, we recommend monitoring performance data, and events that have the potential to impact performance. EC2 Scheduled Events are events scheduled by AWS for your instances, and you can monitor these events via our AWS_EC2_Scheduled_Events DataSource.

The DataSource uses a LogicMonitor maintained Cloud Collector for data collection, and identifies any upcoming scheduled events and all relevant alert detail, including type of event and hours until event.

Receiving these events in LogicMonitor means you can route the relevant alerts to the correct individuals, to ensure they do not go unseen. It also means you have more information in LogicMonitor to ensure a fast issue to resolution if a performance impacting event is missed.
