96% of IT leaders expect observability spending to hold steady or grow over the next 12-24 months. 62% are planning for increases.

This is because observability has become critical infrastructure that companies can’t afford to skimp on. Every business runs on IT now, whether you’re in retail, banking, healthcare, manufacturing, or other sectors. When your systems go down, your business stops. That’s why these budgets stay protected.

What’s changed is where the money goes. Observability used to mean monitoring your servers and networks. Now it includes Internet performance, user experience tracking, and the whole path from customer to code. Performance problems anywhere in that chain directly hit revenue and customer retention.

AI initiatives are getting massive attention right now, with 63% of leaders saying it’s a top priority. Trend #2: Tool Consolidation Is Becoming the Default Strategy

We asked: Is your organization currently looking to consolidate or reduce the number of observability/monitoring tools in use?

84% of organizations are consolidating or seriously thinking about it. 41% are already doing it, and another 43% are evaluating.

We asked: Approximately how many different observability/monitoring tools or platforms does your IT team currently use?

Most companies are running 2-3 observability platforms today—that’s 66% of the organizations we surveyed. Another 18% are juggling 4-5 platforms. Think about what that means: overlapping capabilities, duplicate data pipelines, constant integration headaches, and the operational nightmare of switching between tools during an outage. Only 10% are running on a single unified platform. And those teams have already set up to leverage AI and automation in ways the rest can’t.

We asked: Indicate your agreement with this statement: ”We are open to adopting a single observability platform that could replace multiple tools if it meets all our requirements.”

Here’s the interesting part: 74% of IT leaders say they’d consolidate onto a single platform if it met their needs. That’s a huge shift for an industry that’s historically avoided putting all its eggs in one basket.

17% say they’re very likely to switch—they’re already exploring options or have plans in motion. 50% are somewhat likely, meaning they’re open to it if the case is strong enough. Only 27% say they’re not very likely to switch, and a mere 5% are sticking with their current tools.

So what’s driving this? New initiatives that need better monitoring (27%), security and compliance requirements (22%), legacy tools that can’t keep up (19%), major outages that exposed gaps (13%) and regular refresh cycles (11%). 

We asked: What would be the primary reason prompting you to consider a new observability platform?

When leaders evaluate new platforms, three things matter most: better pricing or lower total cost (23%), better tech and AI capabilities (20%), and smoother integration with what they already have (19%). And “lower total cost” means getting better value for your money. Leaders want platforms that justify their price with measurable results.

The barriers to switching are mostly operational, like integration complexity, migration risk, training needs, and budget approvals. These are execution challenges, not reasons to stay on tools that aren’t cutting it anymore.

Where’s this showing up? 38% say lack of advanced insights is blocking their observability goals. 36% are buried in alert fatigue, with thousands of notifications drowning out the actual problems. 39% have integration gaps, so their monitoring tools don’t talk properly to their ITSM systems or DevOps workflows.

We asked: Which best describes your organization’s current use of AI or AIOps capabilities in observability and IT operations?

Only 4% of organizations have actually operationalized AI across their IT operations. Another 12% are using it to automate root cause analysis and remediation. 13% use AIOps mainly for anomaly detection and incident response. But the majority (49%) are still running pilots and experiments in limited environments, while 22% haven’t started yet.

So AI adoption is happening. But getting from pilot to production is where things stall. 62% have started implementing AI in some form, but haven’t scaled it across IT operations.

When we asked leaders what they actually want from AI in observability, they were clear about priorities. 52% want faster root cause analysis and incident response. 47% want predictive analytics to catch problems before they happen. 44% want to automate remediation and build self-healing systems.

But here’s the catch: leaders want automation with guardrails. They need policy-driven actions with approval workflows, integration with existing governance, and explainability that shows why AI flagged something and what data it used to decide.
