What is WebPageTest Pro and what is WebPageTest Starter?
WebPageTest Starter is our free plan, available to everyone. It lets you run tests with the full set of core performance metrics we’ve provided for years, plus access to the Opportunities report to help identify areas for improvement.
WebPageTest Pro is our premium subscription that unlocks advanced functionality, including scheduled tests, customizable alerts, team collaboration, Smartboards, bulk testing, premium global test locations, priority in testing queues, the WebPageTest API, Experiments, private tests, and dedicated support – everything you need to test more, test faster, and get deeper insights.
How do you define a test run?
For all WebPageTest plans, a test run is a single page load within a test.
Examples (single browser and location):
- 3 test runs (first view only) = 3 test runs (3 × 1 load).
- 5 test runs (first + repeat views) = 10 test runs (5 × 2 loads).
- 4 test runs (first + repeat) + 1 Lighthouse run = 9 test runs ((4 × 2) + 1 Lighthouse run)).
- Experiment with 2 test runs (first view only) = 4 test runs (2 × 2: control + experiment).
What countries and browsers do you support with the WebPageTest
WebPageTest Starter gives you access to 30 locations worldwide, and WebPageTest Pro gives you access to 35 locations worldwide, including mainland China.
WebPageTest is always up-to-date on the current version of every browser and you can test on Chrome (stable, beta, canary), Firefox (stable, beta, ESR), Microsoft Edge (dev) and Brave.
WebPageTest Pro also supports mobile emulation testing. You can test mobile content by emulating an Android browser by passing “mobile=1” as an API option.

Is there a daily limit for the test runs?
There are no daily limits on any subscription plan. Each plan has a monthly limit of test runs, based on the subscription tier you select. On the Starter plan, you can run up to 3 test runs per test.
What are Opportunities and Experiments?
Opportunities and Experiments together offer a strong way to quickly find improvement areas on your website and test the effects of relevant optimizations, all without needing to write any code.
- Opportunities (available to all users, including Starter)
- Show personalized recommendations in three key areas: Quickness, Usability, and Resilience.
- Provide actionable tips on how to make your site faster and more reliable.
- Experiments (exclusive to WebPageTest Pro)
- Let you test optimizations directly in the WebPageTest sandbox.
- Each experiment runs side‑by‑side with a control test, so you can instantly see how much the change improves performance.
With Opportunities, you’ll know what to improve. With Experiments, you’ll see the impact.
Is there a free trial where I can test WebPageTest Pro?
We don’t offer a traditional free trial of WebPageTest Pro, since the Starter plan already gives you full access to all WebPageTest metrics. The only difference is that Experiments and other premium features require a Pro subscription.
How will I be charged?
For both monthly and annual subscription plans, your credit card will be automatically billed when you sign up. You can view your full payment history anytime under Settings → Billing and Invoices. All subscription plans can be canceled at any time without penalty. When you cancel, auto‑renewal will stop for the next billing cycle, and you’ll continue to have access to your plan until the end of your current billing period.
If you are based out of the United States of America, you will be charged in US Dollars, but your bank may apply foreign exchange rates or fees.
What payment methods do you support?
We accept payment via Credit Card (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Maestro, Discover, Diners Club International, UnionPay). Please ensure the accuracy of your payment method and that it is properly funded to avoid any issues with payment acceptance.
We do not accept and will not ask you to provide payments with cash or a physical check.
How secure is my payment?
All payments are securely processed over HTTPS and your card information never touches our servers. All payment processing is done by a level 1 PCI compliant third-party credit card processor. All details are sent over SSL, which is a 2048-bit RSA-encrypted channel.
Our payment gateway also adheres to card networks’ requirements and regulations surrounding payment processing.
Can I add more users to my WPT Pro account?
With Pro plans, you are allowed to have up to 5 team members in your account.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can choose to cancel anytime during the subscription period. Once you choose to cancel, it stops the WebPageTest Pro subscription from auto-renewing for the next billing cycle. You’ll continue to have access to run tests for that plan, until the end of your current billing period. When you cancel, you cancel only the subscription. You’ll continue to have access to the WebPageTest account and history of the manual tests you ran with that account. Please note all subscriptions are automatically renewed unless explicitly cancelled.
How do I upgrade to a higher plan or downgrade to a lower plan?
You can easily change your WebPageTest subscription anytime:
In the portal, go to Settings > Billing and Invoices and select your new plan. You can move between Pro tiers or switch from monthly to annual billing (and save 20%). Your billing will update automatically.
What is your data retention?
Test history is retained for 60 days on the Starter plan, and 13 months with Pro plans.
