DreamHost Powers Always-On Hosting with Proactive Visibility
DreamHost runs a global hosting business in which network performance directly affects the customer experience. Customers expect their sites and applications to remain fast and available, and DreamHost has to meet that expectation every day.
For the team, that means more than simply responding when something breaks. It means understanding where a problem started, how far it has spread, and whether it lies within DreamHost’s environment or elsewhere across the broader internet.
DreamHost Needed a Complete View
Before LogicMonitor’s internet performance monitoring (IPM), the team relied on a mix of vendor-specific tools and open-source monitoring systems. Those tools showed pieces of the environment, but they did not create a complete picture.
That made it harder to spot issues outside working hours, correlate signals across infrastructure layers, and determine whether a problem resided within DreamHost’s environment or elsewhere.
DreamHost Needed Evidence It Could Use
DreamHost needed more than isolated data points. It needed a way to connect performance data into something operationally useful across a complex hybrid environment.
IPM provided broader context through public node coverage and Enterprise Node-to-Enterprise Node testing, making it easier to understand performance across different regions and paths.
DreamHost Moved Faster to Root Cause
Following implementation, DreamHost simplified alert triage, improved correlation across servers, networks, and logs, and gained confidence that it was seeing the full picture rather than isolated pieces.
That helped the team move faster from signal to root cause and bring more useful evidence into provider conversations.
The impact showed up clearly in two incidents:
- On the PDX-to-IAD path, traceroute and hop-by-hop visuals showed RTT spikes and packet loss beginning within Hurricane Electric’s core network, allowing DreamHost to validate the provider fault and escalate with evidence.
- On the Oregon-to-Singapore path, Enterprise Node-to-Enterprise Node testing ruled out the public internet and traced the issue to IPsec and IKE timer settings, restoring stability across the path.
DreamHost’s networking team said IPM gave them “the objective network evidence to prove one issue was inside a provider network – then the private node visibility to isolate another to VPN timer resets.”
“Since picking up LogicMonitor’s IPM, we’ve been able to be a lot more proactive versus reactive to network issues.”
DreamHost Is Extending Proactive Visibility
With IPM embedded in daily operations, DreamHost continues to expand its use of the platform. Broader monitoring, more automation, and more connected service visibility are natural next steps for a team responsible for keeping an always-on hosting experience running smoothly.
For DreamHost, proactive visibility is not just about investigating incidents after the fact. It is about keeping customers from feeling the impact in the first place.
