For ITOps teams, knowing that infrastructure is healthy is only part of the picture. What matters to the business is whether customers and employees can actually use the applications and services they depend on.

A website can be up while checkout is slow. An application can look healthy from the data center while users in another region are struggling to connect. A SaaS application can degrade because of an ISP, DNS, CDN, API, or another third-party service your team doesn’t own.

That’s why synthetic monitoring has become an important part of understanding digital experience—and why LogicMonitor is expanding what customers can do with it.

LogicMonitor Synthetics and Internet Performance Monitoring gives ITOps teams a more modern way to proactively test applications, APIs, websites, and critical user journeys across the internet stack. Instead of waiting for users to report a problem, teams can continuously test the services they care about and identify performance and availability issues before they turn into larger incidents.

Moving LogicMonitor Synthetics forward

As part of this shift, LogicMonitor will be retiring the LM APM Synthetics (SYN) product and standardizing synthetic monitoring with stronger capabilities on the LogicMonitor Synthetics and Internet Performance Monitoring product.

LM APM Synthetics reached the End of Quote on August 3, 2026 and will reach End of Sale on September 15, 2026. Existing customers will continue to receive support during the transition period, with the legacy product reaching End of Life (EOL) on May 31, 2027. These milestones are also reflected in product transition planning.

This isn’t simply a replacement for an older synthetic monitoring capability. It gives LogicMonitor customers a broader way to understand performance from the perspective that ultimately matters: the user.

The former LM APM Synthetics product relied on LogicMonitor Collectors and Selenium-based architecture. The enhanced LogicMonitor Synthetics product expands that model to over 3,500 global test locations where you host – and where your users live, work, and play –  broader test types, and richer diagnostics for understanding exactly where a transaction starts to slow down or fail.

Go beyond “is it up?”

Traditional availability checks answer an important question: Is this service responding?

But modern applications have too many dependencies for that to be the only question.

A single user transaction can cross your application, cloud infrastructure, APIs, DNS, CDN, ISP, SaaS provider, and other third-party services before reaching the user. When something goes wrong, your team needs to know not only that the transaction failed, but where and why it failed.

LogicMonitor Synthetics lets teams continuously simulate interactions with APIs, applications, websites, and third-party services. Tests can range from simple endpoint checks to complete user journeys, helping teams identify degradation earlier and troubleshoot across the full service path.

Explore endpoint checks and responses to discover potential points of failure.

For practitioners, that means you can validate that your users are receiving the best experience possible: Can they log in? Can they complete a transaction? Is an API responding within the expected threshold? Does the application perform the same way from Dallas, London, and Singapore?

One of the biggest changes for existing LM APM Synthetics customers is where tests can run.

Instead of relying solely on local Collectors, LogicMonitor Synthetics provides access to global testing locations. That makes it possible to validate performance across different regions, providers, and network conditions and see when an issue affects one group of users but not another.

That outside-in view is increasingly important as applications move beyond infrastructure that IT directly controls.

Your infrastructure may be performing normally while a CDN has an issue. Your SaaS provider may be available while a regional ISP is degrading the employee experience. An API dependency may add latency to an otherwise healthy application.

Synthetic monitoring gives your team another vantage point to find those problems.

Troubleshoot faster when something breaks

Finding an issue early is useful. Knowing where to look next is even better.

LogicMonitor Synthetics provides deeper transaction visibility, including filmstrips and playback that can show where a user journey breaks. Broader API, browser, and network testing also helps teams investigate dependencies beyond the application itself.

The result is less time spent asking whether the problem belongs to the application, infrastructure, network, or an external provider.

Teams can follow performance across service paths, correlate behavior across dependencies, and narrow down the source of failures and slowdowns faster. That means shorter troubleshooting cycles and fewer situations where multiple teams are pulled into an incident without knowing where the problem actually started.

Bring synthetic monitoring into the bigger observability picture

Synthetic monitoring becomes even more valuable when you use it alongside the rest of your observability strategy.

LogicMonitor’s Internet Performance Monitoring capabilities help teams understand performance across the Internet Stack. Digital Experience Monitoring adds visibility into the applications and experiences users depend on. Endpoint Monitoring helps IT diagnose the experience of employees across their devices, networks, and SaaS applications.

Together, those capabilities help answer different parts of the same operational question: What are users experiencing, and what’s causing it?

Synthetic tests proactively tell you how an application or journey should perform. Real User Monitoring can show what actual users are experiencing. Internet and endpoint visibility help expose the external dependencies and last-mile conditions affecting that experience.

What this means for existing LM APM Synthetics customers

If you’re currently using LM APM Synthetics, you have time to plan your transition.

Existing customers will continue to receive support through the transition period. LogicMonitor teams can provide transition planning, training, and enablement resources as you move your synthetic tests to the new platform. Historical SYN data will not migrate, so that should be considered as part of your transition plan.

The product mapping is also designed around familiar use cases. Existing LM Synthetics tests map to Real Browser Testing options, including Playwright/Puppeteer for multistep journeys and web-browser testing for single URLs.

More importantly, this is an opportunity to look beyond simply recreating the tests you already have.

Consider where global testing could expose regional performance problems you can’t see today. Identify business-critical transactions that would benefit from full user journey testing. Look at APIs and third-party services that sit outside your infrastructure but have a direct impact on your users.

The goal isn’t just to move your existing monitors. It’s to come out of the transition with better visibility.

Detect problems before your users do

IT environments have changed significantly since former synthetic monitoring was primarily about checking whether a website was available.

Today’s digital experiences cross infrastructure, cloud platforms, networks, APIs, SaaS applications, and services owned by other providers. Your team may not control every dependency, but you’re still responsible when users can’t get what they need.

By continuously testing critical applications and journeys from the places your users actually connect, teams can detect issues earlier, understand external dependencies, troubleshoot faster, and reduce the impact of incidents on users and the business.
