NetScan Overview (New UI)
Last updated - 25 August, 2022
NetScans allow LogicMonitor Collectors to periodically look for and automatically discover resources in your network. NetScans streamline the process of adding resources to your LogicMonitor account.
When a resource is discovered, you can specify criteria that determines whether it will be added to monitoring. In addition, the display name can be set based on one of the following:
- Reverse DNS (as resolved by your reverse DNS)
- System name (from SNMP devices if you have it set in the sysName OID)
- IP address
NetScan uses the following methods to discover resources:
- Use ICMP ping to scan the network—The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) method scans all IP addresses in the specified IP range for a ping response.
- Upload a script or csv to discover devices—This method uses the output of a script or the contents of a comma separated value file to add resources.
NetScans are created and managed from Settings > NetScan. For more information, see Creating NetScans.
