HPE Nimble Monitoring
Last updated on 01 October, 2024Overview
LogicMonitor’s HPE Nimble monitoring package leverages SSH and SNMP to monitor various metrics pertaining to disks, volumes, arrays, and general system health.
Compatibility
As of August 2020, LogicMonitor’s HPE Nimble package is known to be compatible with:
- Nimble OS 5.2 and earlier versions
Setup Requirements
Satisfy Dependencies
Some of the LogicModules in this package use SNMP for data collection and others use SSH.
For the Nimble Volume Usage and Nimble Global Stats DataSources:
- SNMP must be enabled on the device
For all other LogicModules:
- The nim.user and nim.pass properties must be defined on the resource, as discussed in the Assign Properties to Resources section of this support article.
Add Resources Into Monitoring
Add your HPE Nimble hosts into monitoring. For more information on adding resources into monitoring, see Adding Devices.
Assign Properties to Resources
LogicMonitor must provide the appropriate credentials in order to successfully access the HPE Nimble resource. These credentials are entered as custom properties on the Nimble resource within LogicMonitor. For more information on setting properties, see Resource and Instance Properties.
Property | Value |
nim.user | Nimble SSH username |
nim.pass | Nimble SSH password |
Import LogicModules
From the LogicMonitor public repository, import all HPE Nimble LogicModules, which are listed in the LogicModules in Package section of this support article. If these LogicModules are already present, ensure you have the most recent versions.
Once the LogicModules are imported (assuming all previous setup requirements have been met), data collection will automatically commence.
Considerations/Warnings
For the DataSources that monitor disk metrics (Nimble_HDD_Disks, Nimble_SSD_Disks), one disk takes ~500ms to get data. If the number of disks divided by two is greater than the collection interval in seconds, you may need to increase the collection interval. For more information on updating the collection interval of a DataSource, see Creating a DataSource.
LogicModules in Package
LogicMonitor’s package for HPE Nimble consists of the following LogicModules. For full coverage, please ensure that all of these LogicModules are imported into your LogicMonitor platform.
Display Name | Type | Description |
addCategory_NimbleSSH | PropertySource | Adds category to discover Nimble devices. |
Nimble_Array_Properties | PropertySource | Discovers Nimble arrays (standalone or in a group) and populates various properties for each, including serial, OS version, and model. |
Volume Usage | DataSource | Nimble volume usage via SNMP. |
Volume Latency | DataSource | Nimble volume latency metrics via SSH. |
SSD Disks | DataSource | Gets drive state and % reallocated sectors remaining for Nimble SSDs. Uses batchscript to cut down on the number of SSH connections. |
HDD Disks | DataSource | Gets drive state and uncorrected r/w errors for Nimble HDDs. Uses the batchscript data collection method to cut down on the number of SSH connections. |
Global Stats | DataSource | Array-wide snapshot and volume usage, IO, and latency via SNMP. |
CPU Load | DataSource | Load average on Nimble arrays via SSH. |
Array Info | DataSource | General info about the Nimble array via SSH. |
When setting static datapoint thresholds on the various metrics tracked by this package’s DataSources, LogicMonitor follows the technology owner’s best practice KPI recommendations. If necessary, we encourage you to adjust these predefined thresholds to meet the unique needs of your environment. For more information on tuning datapoint thresholds, see Tuning Static Thresholds for Datapoints.
