Ruckus SmartZone Monitoring

Last updated on 07 March, 2024

LogicMonitor offers out-of-the-box monitoring for the Ruckus SmartZone (SZ) controllers. This monitoring package uses the Ruckus API to query the SmartZone controller for a variety of performance metrics, including controller uptime, CPU, memory, packet count, dropped packet count, TX ands RX Bps data, alarm counts, event counts, AP and client counts, as well as cluster and management port summary data.

Note: LogicMonitor offers monitoring for Ruckus SmartZone (SZ), but not for Virtual SmartZone (vSZ).

Setup Requirements

Add Resource Into Monitoring

Add the Ruckus SmartZone host into monitoring using the following credentials:

  • ruckus.user
  • ruckus.pass
  • (Optional) ruckus.port
  • (Optional) ruckus.max_instance_count

Note: The default port is 8443. You must be able to get data from the API (executed from the connector to the resource), over the specified or default port, using HTTPS. For more information on adding resources into monitoring, see Adding Devices.

Import LogicModules

Import the Ruckus SmartZone LogicModules, which are listed in the LogicModules in Package section of this support article.

Considerations

  • SNMP: For scaling and performance reasons, SNMP is not recommended for monitoring SmartZone systems.
  • Virtual SmartZone: Monitoring Virtual SmartZone systems is not recommended.
  • No Data: Ruckus_SZ_ManagementSummary displays output as no data if there is no management port data.

Discovering Additional Instances under Ruckus_SZ_DeviceSummary

ruckus.max_instance_count can be used to discover additional instances under Ruckus_SZ_DeviceSummary module. This property allows you to define the maximum number of instances that can be monitored. Upper bound for the number of maximum instances supported by each collector size is as follows:

Collector SizeMax Instance Count (ruckus.max_instance_count)
Nano100
Small300
Medium1000
Large1500
Custom1500
Extra Large2500
Double Extra Large2500

LogicModules in Package

LogicMonitor’s package for Ruckus SmartZone consists of the following LogicModules. For full coverage, ensure that all of these LogicModules are imported into your LogicMonitor platform:

Display NameTypeDescription
addCategory_Ruckus_SZPropertySourceRetrieves product APIVersion info from Ruckus SmartZone controllers and sets a Ruckus_SZ system category.
Ruckus_SZ_AlarmSummaryDataSourceCollects Alarm Event Counts on each controller resource by AP
Ruckus_SZ_ClusterSummaryDataSourceGathers summary network traffic and packet data from the api for Ruckus Clusters
addCategory_Ruckus_SZ_ClusterModePropertySourceChecks for a ipv4 or ipv6 cluster IP address.
Ruckus_SZ_ClusterSummaryDataSourceGathers summary network traffic and packet data from the api for Ruckus Clusters
Ruckus_SZ_ControllerInventoryDataSourceGathers summary network traffic and packet data from the api for Ruckus Clusters
Ruckus_SZ_ControllerSummaryDataSourceGathers summary data from the api for Ruckus Controllers for memory, cpu, traffic, packets, and disk usage
Ruckus_SZ_DeviceSummaryDataSourceDevice Client count, 2.4g and 5g Channels, and Uptime
Ruckus_SZ_EventSummaryDataSourceGathers Counts for Critical, Major, Minor, Warning, Debug, and Informational Events
Ruckus_SZ_ManagementSummaryDataSourceGathers summary data from the api for Ruckus Management Interfaces
Ruckus_SZ_UptimeDataSourceGathers uptime data from the api for Ruckus Controllers

Note: Ruckus vSZ is not supported with the SZ modules.

When setting static datapoint thresholds on the various metrics tracked by this package’s DataSources, LogicMonitor follows the technology owner’s best practice KPI recommendations.

Recommendation: If necessary, we encourage you to adjust these predefined thresholds to meet the unique needs of your environment. For more information on tuning datapoint thresholds, see Tuning Static Thresholds for Datapoints.
