Technology Notes

This monitoring suite for rPDU Advanced utilizes SNMP for data collection, offering detailed insights into power consumption, load distribution, and environmental conditions. For more information, see APC SNMP Configuration Guide.

Compatibility

Modules are compatible with all 10000 series rPDU Advanced units (for example, APDU10452SM).

Setup Requirements

Satisfy Dependencies

Ensure your LogicMonitor Collector is upgraded to version 32.100 or later to support the SNMP scripts used in this monitoring suite.

Add Resources into Monitoring

Incorporate your rPDU Advanced units into LogicMonitor for monitoring. For more information, see Adding Devices.

Obtain Credentials

To access data from the rPDU Advanced units, you must provide LogicMonitor with the appropriate SNMP credentials. These credentials should be associated with an SNMP user account that has the necessary permissions for data collection.

Assign Properties to Resources

Configure the following custom properties on the rPDU Advanced units within LogicMonitor:

PropertyValue
snmp.version SNMP version (e.g., v2c, v3)
snmp.community SNMP community string (for SNMP v1/v2c)
snmp.userSNMP username (for SNMP v3)
snmp.pass SNMP password (for SNMP v3)
snmp.authProtocolSNMP authentication protocol (for SNMP v3)
snmp.privProtocolSNMP privacy protocol (for SNMP v3)
snmp.context  SNMP context (if applicable)

Ports

Ensure the standard SNMP port (UDP 161) is accessible from your LogicMonitor Collector to the rPDU Advanced units.

Import LogicModules

From the LogicMonitor repository, import the following rPDU Advanced LogicModules:

  • APC_rPDUAdvanced_Phases
  • APC_rPDUAdvanced_GlobalPerformance
  • APC_rPDUAdvanced_SwitchedOutlet
  • APC_rPDUAdvanced_CircuitBreakers

Verify you have the latest versions for accurate monitoring.

Update SysOID Map

This suite makes use of the SysOID maps to identify applicable devices. When updating the SysOID definition, include the following:

oidCategories
.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.32snmp, snmpTCPUDP, APC, APCRackPDUAdvanced

Considerations and Warnings

  • Verify SNMP is enabled and correctly configured on your rPDU Advanced units to facilitate successful data collection.
  • Excessive SNMP polling can impact performance due to network and device load.

LogicModules in Package

Display nameTypeDescription
APC_rPDUAdvanced_PhasesDataSourceMonitors performance metrics of each phase, including load, voltage, and power factor.
APC_rPDUAdvanced_GlobalPerformanceDataSourceProvides an overview of global performance metrics for the entire rPDU Advanced unit.
APC_rPDUAdvanced_SwitchedOutletDataSourceTracks status and control capabilities of individual outlets, including power cycling.
APC_rPDUAdvanced_CircuitBreakersDataSourceMonitors status of circuit breakers, alerting on tripped breakers and potential overloads.

Troubleshooting

  • If SNMP data collection issues arise, verify the SNMP configuration on your rPDU Advanced units and ensure the LogicMonitor Collector has network access to these units.
  • Enable debug mode by setting the debug variable to “true” in the Collector Debug Facility for more detailed logs during troubleshooting.
