Enabling Dependent Alert Mapping for VirtualMachine

Last updated on 04 September, 2024

You can enable Dependent Alert Mapping for virtual machines, which are added as resources and are denoted with “VirtualMachineResource”. For more information, see Enabling Dependent Alert Mapping.

Requirements

  • To enable Dependent Alert Mapping for virtual machines, you must import the LogicModules. For more information, see Import LogicModules.

Import LogicModules

From the LogicMonitor repository, import all “VirtualMachine” LogicModules that are listed in the LogicModules in the Package section of this support article. If these LogicModules are already present, ensure you have the most recent version.

After the LogicModules are imported, the PropertySources automatically detects the host and assigns the appropriate values to the system.categories property. These settings also automatically associate the DataSources (and ConfigSources if supported by your LogicMonitor account) and data monitoring begins.

LogicModules in Package

Display NameTypeDescription
Cisco_HyperFlex_HypervisorControllerVMSDataSourceDetermines metrics for Cisco HyperFlex Hypervisor Controller Virtual Machines. Data includes the state, role of the Virtual Machine, memory, and available disks.
Cisco_HyperFlex_HypervisorVMSDataSourceDetermines metrics for Cisco HyperFlex Hypervisor Virtual Machines. Data includes the state of the Virtual Machine and the Guest OS, the overall available and consumed storage, and indicates if the Virtual Machine was created using a template.
Cisco_HyperFlex_NodesDataSourcesMonitors relevant metrics for Cisco HyperFlex Nodes. Data includes various node states and a count of disks associated with the node.
VMware_vCenter_VMPerformanceDataSourcesMonitors the CPU, disk, memory, and network performance metrics for vSphere/vCenter virtual machines.
VMware_vCenter_VMSnapshotsDataSourcesMonitors snapshot usage on vSphere  or vCenter virtual machines.
VMware_vCenter_VMStatusDataSourcesTracks vSphere or vCenter Virtual Machine power, heartbeat, fault tolerance, guest tools states, and time since the last power-on.
Sets vCenter <hostname>–<MOR.val> and MAC addresses as External Resource IDs (ERIs). Sets “VirtualMachine” as the default External Resource Type (ERT).
VMware_vSAN_VMPerformanceDataSourcesReturns VM performance related to the vSAN datastore.
VMware_vSphere_VMperformanceDataSourcesMonitors the CPU, disk, memory, and network performance metrics for vSphere/vCenter virtual machines.
VMware_vSphere_VMstatusDataSourcesTracks vSphere or vCenter Virtual Machine power, heartbeat, fault tolerance, guest tools states, and time since the last power-on.
Win_HyperV_VirtualMachinesDataSourcesHyperV virtual machine summary statistics for Windows Server 2008 and later.

Note: After you have enabled Dependent Alert Mapping for the virtual machines, and have added them to the required resource groups if the parent resource fails, the alert will be sent for the parent resource, and the alerts for the resources in that resource group will be suppressed.
In addition, virtual machines as resources are included for Dependent Alert Mapping. However, VMInstances are excluded from Dependent Alert Mapping.
