Preferred Collector Management

In LogicMonitor, each resource is monitored by a designated preferred Collector. When you add a resource manually, you must select the Collector that will monitor it. If the resource is discovered through NetScan, the system automatically assigns the discovering Collector as its monitor. You can reassign the preferred Collector for any existing resource to ensure monitoring responsibilities can be aligned with network architecture, load balancing, or administrative changes.

You can use the Collector settings to locate the Collector currently monitoring the resources for which you want to reassign a preferred Collector for.

Changing the Preferred Collector

1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Settings > Collectors.
2. Select the Collector that is currently monitoring the resources whose preferred Collector you want to change.
   The details panel displays.
3. Select the Resources tab, and then select each resource that you want to change the Collector for.
   
   Select resources displays the Actions settings.
4. Select Actions, and then select “Change the Preferred Collector.”
   The Change Preferred Collector? dialog displays.
   
5. Enter the name of the Collector that you want to change to the preferred Collector for the selected resources.
   LogicMonitor attempts to return results as you type.
6. Select Change.

The Collector immediately begins monitoring the selected resources.
