Action Chains Management

LogicMonitor enables you to manage Action chains directly in your portal to keep your chains up to date. Managing Action chains involves the following:

• Editing Action chains—You can update any of the settings in the existing chains. You can update the DiagnosticSource or RemediationSource that is mapped with the stages. After saving the changes, the updated Action chain apply to new alerts that match the filters in Action rule.
• Cloning Action chains—You can clone existing chains. This is helpful if you have configured chains that you want to apply more than once with minor differences.
• Deleting Action chains—You can permanently delete a chain you no longer need. You cannot delete an Action chain that is currently in use by any Action rule. In such case, you must first remove or update the Action rule, and then delete the Action chain.

Requirements for Managing Action Chains

To manage Action chains, you need the following:

• LogicMonitor Collector installed on your machine must have EA Collector 39.500 or later version.

• A LogicMonitor user with the View and Manage permissions for “Action Chains and Rules” Settings. 
  For more information, see Users and Roles.

Editing Action Chains

1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Settings > Action Settings > Action Chains.
   The Action Chains page displays.
2. In the Actions column, select Manage for the Action chain that you want to edit.
   
   The Manage Action Chains page displays.
   
3. Update details of the Action chain.
   In addition, you can delete the Action chain by selecting Delete and then confirming deletion when prompted.
4. Select Save.

The revised Action chain displays on the Action Chains page.

Cloning Action Chains

1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Settings > Action Settings > Action Chains.
   The Action Chains page displays.
2. In the Actions column, select Manage for the Action chain that you want to clone.
   The Manage Action Chains page displays.
   
3. Select Clone.
   A clone copy of the original Action chain is created with the name of the original chain followed by _CLONE.
   
4. (Optional) Update the clone Action chain.
5. Select Save.

The cloned Action chain is created and added to the Action Chains page.

Deleting Action Chains

1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Settings > Action Settings > Action Chains.
   The Action Chains page displays.
2. In the Actions column, select Delete for the Action chain that you want to delete.
   A message confirming deletion displays.
   
3. Select Confirm.

The system deletes the Action chain and displays a success message.
