Action Chains Management

LogicMonitor enables you to manage Action chains directly in your portal to keep them up to date. Managing Action chains involves the following:

• Editing Action chains—You can update any setting in an existing Action chain, including the DiagnosticSource or RemediationSource mapped to each stage. After you save your changes, the updated Action chain applies to new alerts that match the filters in the associated Action rule.
• Cloning Action chains—You can clone an existing Action chain. This is useful when you want to reuse an Action chain with minor modifications.
• Deleting Action chains—You can permanently delete an Action chain that you no longer need. You cannot delete an Action chain that is currently used by an Action rule. In this case, first remove or update the Action rule, and then delete the Action chain.

Requirements for Managing Action Chains

To manage Action chains, you need the following:

• An EA Collector 39.500 or later installed on your machine.

• A LogicMonitor user with the View and Manage permissions for “Action Chains and Rules” settings. 
  For more information, see Users and Roles.

Editing Action Chains

1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Settings > Action Settings > Action Chains.
   The Action Chains page displays.
2. In the Actions column, select Manage for the Action chain that you want to edit.
   
   The Manage Action Chains page displays.
   
3. Update the Action chain settings.
   In addition, you can also delete the Action chain by selecting Delete and confirming the deletion when prompted.
4. Select Save.

LogicMonitor displays the updated Action chain on the Action Chains page.

Cloning Action Chains

1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Settings > Action Settings > Action Chains.
   The Action Chains page displays.
2. In the Actions column, select Manage for the Action chain that you want to clone.
   The Manage Action Chains page displays.
   
3. Select Clone.
   LogicMonitor creates a copy of the Action chain with _CLONE appended to the original Action chain name.
   
4. (Optional) Update the cloned Action chain.
5. Select Save.

LogicMonitor adds the cloned Action chain to the Action Chains page.

Deleting Action Chains

1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Settings > Action Settings > Action Chains.
   The Action Chains page displays.
2. In the Actions column, select Delete for the Action chain that you want to delete.
   A confirmation message displays.
   
3. Select Confirm.

LogicMonitor deletes the Action chain and displays a success message.
