Scopes Configuration
Last updated – 03 November, 2026
You can create OpenTelemetry Metrics scopes by defining rules that match OpenTelemetry metric attributes and values. A hierarchy can include these scopes under the root scope or another scope. Rules inherited from a parent scope apply together with the rules that you define for the child scope.
Requirements for Adding Scopes
To add an OpenTelemetry Metrics scope, you need a LogicMonitor user with the “View” and “Manage” permissions for the scope in the OTLP Metrics role permissions.
Considerations for Adding Scopes
Consider the following when defining scope rules:
- You cannot define the same attribute more than once within a scope.
- A child scope cannot redefine an attribute inherited from its parent scope.
- Attribute keys are case-sensitive.
Adding OpenTelemetry Metrics Scopes
- In LogicMonitor, navigate to
More > OTel Metrics > Scopes. - Select
to add a scope. - In the Scope name field, enter a name for the scope.
- (Optional) In the Description field, enter a description for the scope.
- From the Parent scope dropdown menu, select a scope.
The root scope is selected by default.
The Parent Rules section displays inherited rules. LogicMonitor combines inherited rules with the new scope rules using the “AND” operator. - In the Rules section, select Add record or
, and do the following:
- In Attribute field, enter the OpenTelemetry metric attribute used to define the scope.
- In Value(s) field, enter the values for the metric attribute.
