OpenTelemetry Metrics provide performance and operational data from your applications and infrastructure. An OpenTelemetry Collector sends the metrics to your LogicMonitor portal for monitoring, visualization, and alerting.

If you already have an OpenTelemetry Collector deployment, configure the existing collector to send metrics directly to your LogicMonitor portal without deploying the LogicMonitor OpenTelemetry Collector.

Considerations for Configuring OpenTelemetry Metrics Using an Existing OpenTelemetry Collector from Contrib

LogicMonitor does not store the configuration of your existing OpenTelemetry Collector. You must manage the Collector configuration in your own environment.

Requirements for Configuring OpenTelemetry Metrics Using an Existing OpenTelemetry Collector from Contrib

To configure OpenTelemetry metrics using existing OpenTelemetry collector from contrib you need the following:

  • LogicMonitor user with the Manage permissions for “OTLP Metrics” in OTLP Metrics role permissions.
  • OpenTelemetry receiver configured in the receivers section of the OpenTelemetry Collector configuration.
  • OTLP HTTP (otlphttp) exporter configured with your LogicMonitor ingestion endpoint and bearer token.

Configuring OpenTelemetry Metrics Using an Existing OpenTelemetry Collector from Contrib

  1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to more options icon More > OTel Metrics.
  2. Select Configure, and then select Configure OTel collector.
The Send Metrics using your OpenTelemetry Collector page displays.
  3. In the Get a bearer token section, copy the bearer token.

Important: Keep the bearer token secure. Anyone with the bearer token can send telemetry data to your LogicMonitor portal.

  1. In the Use LogicMonitor OTLP ingestion endpoint section, copy the OTLP ingestion endpoint shown in OTLP Ingestion Endpoint.
  2. In the Configure the exporter section, copy the generated exporter configuration into the exporters section of your OpenTelemetry Collector configuration.
  3. (Optional) In the Add a collector name section, copy the generated processor configuration into the processors section of your OpenTelemetry Collector configuration. Replace {collector-name} with a meaningful Collector name to identify the source collector.
  4. In the Restart the collector section, restart the OpenTelemetry Collector to apply the configuration changes.

After the OpenTelemetry Collector restarts, it sends metrics to your LogicMonitor portal using the configured OTLP exporter.
