OpenTelemetry Metrics Configuration Overview
Last updated – 14 October, 2026
OpenTelemetry metrics enable you to collect performance and operational data from your applications and infrastructure and send that telemetry data to your LogicMonitor portal for monitoring, visualization, and alerting.
LogicMonitor supports multiple methods for configuring an OpenTelemetry Collector to send metrics based on your deployment model and operational requirements. You can use the LogicMonitor OpenTelemetry Collector, an existing OpenTelemetry Collector, or the LogicMonitor Helm chart for Kubernetes deployments.
For more information about OpenTelemetry metrics, see OpenTelemetry Metrics Overview.
Requirements for Configuring an OpenTelemetry Collector to Send Metrics
To configure OpenTelemetry Collector to send metrics, you need the following:
- LogicMonitor user with the “Manage” permissions.
- You must have access to the host or Kubernetes cluster where the OpenTelemetry Collector runs.
- Ensure that the OpenTelemetry Collector can communicate with the LogicMonitor platform.
- You need authentication credentials to export metrics to LogicMonitor.
- Review your organization’s networking, firewall, and security policies before configuring metric export.
- If you already have an OpenTelemetry Collector deployment, you can configure it to send metrics to LogicMonitor instead of deploying another Collector.
- If you are monitoring Kubernetes workloads, you can deploy the LogicMonitor Helm chart to configure an OpenTelemetry Collector to send metrics to LogicMonitor.
Recommendation: If you are deploying OpenTelemetry monitoring for the first time, LogicMonitor recommends using the LogicMonitor OpenTelemetry Collector.
