LogicMonitor enables you to ingest metrics directly from any OpenTelemetry-compatible source, including applications instrumented with OpenTelemetry SDKs, cloud services, and third-party SaaS platforms (such as IBM NS1, F5, or ThousandEyes), without deploying an intermediary collector.

To configure your source, you only need your LogicMonitor ingestion endpoint and a Bearer token.

Requirements for Configuring OpenTelemetry Metrics Source Connection

To configure OpenTelemetry metrics source connection, you need the following:

  • Network connectivity between your application and your LogicMonitor portal.
  • To ingest OTLP metrics, you need a LogicMonitor user with the OTLP metrics ingestion permission.
  • OTLP-compatible application configured to export metrics using OTLP over HTTP/protobuf.
Note: The users available in the User field depend on your assigned permissions.

Configuring OpenTelemetry Metrics Source Connection

  1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to more options icon More > OTel Metrics.
  2. Select Configure, and then select View connection details.
The Connect an OTel Metrics Source page displays.
  3. Copy the value from the OTLP Ingestion Endpoint field.
  4. In the User field, select the LogicMonitor user account used to authenticate metrics ingestion.

  1. In the Bearer Token field, copy the bearer token.
  2. Configure your OpenTelemetry Collector or another OTLP-compatible application using the following values:
    1. Endpoint — Use the value from the OTLP Ingestion Endpoint field.
    2. Authentication — Use the value from the Bearer Token field.
    3. Protocol — Use OTLP HTTP/protobuf.
  3. Configure the following HTTP header in your OpenTelemetry Collector or another OTLP-compatible application:
    Authorization: Bearer <bearer-token>
The OpenTelemetry Collector or another OTLP-compatible application authenticates with LogicMonitor and sends metrics to your LogicMonitor portal.

Note: If you generate a new bearer token, update every OpenTelemetry Collector and OTLP-compatible application that uses the previous bearer token.
