Ruckus SmartZone Monitoring
Last updated – 01 September, 2026
LogicMonitor offers out-of-the-box monitoring for the Ruckus SmartZone (SZ) controllers. This monitoring package uses the Ruckus API to query the SmartZone controller for a variety of performance metrics, including controller uptime, CPU, memory, packet count, dropped packet count, TX ands RX Bps data, alarm counts, event counts, AP and client counts, as well as cluster and management port summary data.
Note: LogicMonitor offers monitoring for Ruckus SmartZone (SZ), but not for Virtual SmartZone (vSZ).
Requirements for Ruckus SmartZone Monitoring
To use Ruckus SmartZone Monitoring, you need the following:
- A supported Ruckus SmartZone (SZ) controller
Note: Virtual SmartZone (vSZ) is not supported.
- Network connectivity from the Collector to the SmartZone REST API over HTTPS
- The Collector is able to communicate with the SmartZone REST API over HTTPS on port 8443, or the custom API port configured on the SmartZone controller
- The following resource properties:
ruckus.userruckus.pass- (Optional)
ruckus.port - (Optional)
ruckus.max_instance_count
For more information, see Add Resources into Ruckus SmartZone Monitoring.
- SmartZone version 5.2.2 or earlier to collect data with the following LogicModules:
Ruckus_SZ_AlarmSummaryRuckus_SZ_EventSummary
Add Resources into Ruckus SmartZone Monitoring
Add the Ruckus SmartZone controller as a resource in LogicMonitor.
For more information, see Adding Resources.
Assign Properties to Ruckus SmartZone Resources
Configure the following properties on the monitored resource:
| Property | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
ruckus.user | Yes | Username used to authenticate with the SmartZone REST API. |
ruckus.pass | Yes | Password used to authenticate with the SmartZone REST API. |
ruckus.port | No | HTTPS port used to connect to the SmartZone REST API. The default is 8443. |
ruckus.max_instance_count | No | Maximum number of instances discovered for Ruckus_SZ_DeviceSummary. |
The Collector must be able to communicate with the SmartZone REST API over HTTPS on port 8443, or the custom API port configured on the SmartZone controller.
For more information, see Resource and Instance Properties.
Maximum Instance Discovery
The ruckus.max_instance_count property controls the maximum number of instances discovered by Ruckus_SZ_DeviceSummary.
The following table lists the supported maximum value by Collector size:
| Collector Size | Max Instance Count (ruckus.max_instance_count) |
| Nano | 100 |
| Small | 300 |
| Medium | 1000 |
| Large | 1500 |
| Custom | 1500 |
| Extra Large | 2500 |
| Double Extra Large | 2500 |
Import LogicModules
Install all Ruckus SmartZone LogicModules from the LogicMonitor’s Module Exchange. For more information, see the list of LogicModules in Package. If these LogicModules are already present, ensure you have the most recent version of each module.
Data collection automatically starts when the LogicModules are imported.
LogicModules in Package
LogicMonitor’s package for Ruckus SmartZone consists of the following LogicModules. For full coverage, import the following LogicModules into your LogicMonitor platform:
| Display Name | Type | Description |
| addCategory_Ruckus_SZ | PropertySource | Retrieves product APIVersion info from Ruckus SmartZone controllers and sets a Ruckus_SZ system category. |
| Ruckus_SZ_AlarmSummary | DataSource | Collects Alarm Event Counts on each controller resource by AP |
| Ruckus_SZ_ClusterSummary | DataSource | Gathers summary network traffic and packet data from the api for Ruckus Clusters |
| addCategory_Ruckus_SZ_ClusterMode | PropertySource | Checks for a ipv4 or ipv6 cluster IP address. |
| Ruckus_SZ_ClusterSummary | DataSource | Gathers summary network traffic and packet data from the api for Ruckus Clusters |
| Ruckus_SZ_ControllerInventory | DataSource | Gathers summary network traffic and packet data from the api for Ruckus Clusters |
| Ruckus_SZ_ControllerSummary | DataSource | Gathers summary data from the api for Ruckus Controllers for memory, cpu, traffic, packets, and disk usage |
| Ruckus_SZ_DeviceSummary | DataSource | Device Client count, 2.4g and 5g Channels, and Uptime |
| Ruckus_SZ_EventSummary | DataSource | Gathers Counts for Critical, Major, Minor, Warning, Debug, and Informational Events |
| Ruckus_SZ_ManagementSummary | DataSource | Gathers summary data from the api for Ruckus Management Interfaces |
| Ruckus_SZ_Uptime | DataSource | Gathers uptime data from the api for Ruckus Controllers |
Note: Ruckus vSZ is not supported with the SZ modules.
When setting static datapoint thresholds on the various metrics tracked by this package’s DataSources, LogicMonitor follows the technology owner’s best practice KPI recommendations.
Recommendation: If necessary, we encourage you to adjust these predefined thresholds to meet the unique needs of your environment. For more information on tuning datapoint thresholds, see Tuning Static Thresholds for Datapoints.
