Service Addition
Last updated – 02 November, 2026
LogicMonitor Services enable you to monitor the health of instances across one or more monitored resources. You can add resources and instances, configure service metrics and alert thresholds, and associate Experience Tests with a service to monitor infrastructure and digital experience health.
Requirements for Adding a Service
To add a service, you need the following:
- A LogicMonitor user with the “Manage” permission
- Resources and instances available in LogicMonitor
- A Digital Experience license
Adding a Service
- In LogicMonitor, navigate to Services.
- In the Services tree, select the root folder or an existing service where you want to add the service, and then select Add.
The Add dialog box displays the following options:- Service—Groups instances across one or more monitored resources.
- Multiple services, via a new Auto-Creation Rule—Creates multiple services automatically based on an Auto-Creation Rule.
- Service Group—Groups services together.

- Select Service.
The Add Service page displays. - At the Basic Info step of the wizard, do the following:
- In the Name field, enter a name for the service.
- In the Description field, enter a description for the service.
- Toggle the Enable alerting switch to manage alerting for the service.

- In the IP Address/DNS Name field, enter the IP address or DNS name for the service.
- In the Collector Group field, select a Collector group.
- In the Preferred Collector field, select a Collector from the selected Collector group.
- In the Groups section, select Add Record, and do the following:
- In the Name field, select a Service Group.
- In the Description field, enter a description.
- Select Apply.
Note: You can add a service to multiple Service Groups, but you cannot add a service to resource groups.
- You can add a service to multiple Service Groups, but you cannot add a service to resource groups.
- In the Name field, select a property.
- In the Value field, enter the property value.
- Select Apply.
Note: You can add multiple properties. Use properties to apply the same aggregate DataSource to multiple services.
- Select Next: Members.
- Select a membership option from the Re-evaluate membership every dropdown menu:
- 5 Minutes—Re-evaluates membership of the added members every 5 minutes.
- 30 Minutes—Re-evaluates membership of the added members every 30 minutes.
- 1 Day—Re-evaluates membership of the added members every 24 hours.
- Select a membership option from the Re-evaluate membership every dropdown menu:

Note: The selected interval determines how often LogicMonitor re-evaluates the membership criteria for the service. Use a shorter interval for a dynamic service, such as a containerized application or cloud auto-scaling group, and a longer interval for a more static service.
- In the Members section, select + Add a Member, and do the following:
- In the Group field, select a group.
- Toggle the Include Subgroups switch to include resources from subgroups.
- In the Resource field, select a resource.
- In the Properties section, select + Add Record, and do the following:
- In the Name field, select a property.
- In the Value field, enter the property value.
- Select Apply.
Note: The resource property filter dynamically matches resources based on property values. You can make membership dynamic by using glob patterns in the group, resource, and instance name fields or by adding a resource property filter. For example, to match all servers with “kafka” in the name, enter “*kafka*” in the resource field. To match all Amazon EC2 instances in a specific Auto Scaling group, add a resource property filter that matches resources with the system.aws.tag.aws:autoscaling:groupName property set to the Auto Scaling group name.
- Select Apply.
The member is added to the Members section.
- In the Individual Instances section, select + Add an Instance and do the following:
- In the Group field, select a group.
- Toggle the Include Subgroups switch to include resources from subgroups.
- In the Resource field, select a resource.
- In the Properties section, select + Add Record, and do the following:
- In the Name field, select a property.
- In the Value field, enter the property value.
- Select Apply.
- In the DataSource field, select a DataSource.
- In the Instance field, select an instance.
- Select Apply.
The instance is added to the Individual Instances section.
- Select Next: Metrics.
- From the DataSource list, select a DataSource to add metrics.
- In the Filter Data Sources field, enter a DataSource name to filter the list.
- From the Metrics dropdown menu, select one of the following options:
- Any
- None
- One or more

- In the DataSource column, select a DataSource to configure its service metrics.
- Select the metrics to add to the service. You can use the following aggregation options:
- Mean—The average value of a datapoint across service members.
- Sum—The sum of the datapoint values across service members.
- Min—The minimum datapoint value across service members.
- Max—The maximum datapoint value across service members.
- Count—The number of instances associated with the datapoint and DataSource combination.
- Range—The difference between the maximum and minimum datapoint values.
- Unbalanced—Identifies uneven utilization of service members based on datapoint values.
- Percentile—The specified percentile of the datapoint values across service members at each timestamp.
- Conditional count—Calculates the number of service members whose datapoint values meet a specified condition.
- Select Save.
The Selected Metrics column displays the number of selected metrics for the DataSource. The Number Of Instances column displays the number of associated instances. - In Complex Datapoints, select + Add a complex datapoint, and do the following:
- In the Name field, enter a name for the complex datapoint.
- (Optional) In the Description field, enter a description for the complex datapoint.
- (Optional) From Insert a Datapoint, select a datapoint to add to the expression.
- In the Expression field, enter the expression for the complex datapoint.
- Select Apply.
The complex datapoint is added to the DataSource.
- Do one of the following:
- To configure metric thresholds, select Next: Metric thresholds.
- To skip configuring metric thresholds, select Skip to Experience tests.
- At the Metric thresholds step of the wizard, do the following:
- For the datapoint that you want to configure, select
edit in the Actions column.
The thresholds dialog box displays. - In the From and To fields, select the start and end times for the thresholds.

- Trigger a critical alert
- Trigger an error alert
- Trigger a warning alert
- For the datapoint that you want to configure, select

- (Optional) In the Note field, enter information about the threshold configuration.
- Select Apply.
Note: LogicMonitor saves the service-level static thresholds with the Health DataSource when you leave the Metric thresholds step.
- Select Next: Experience tests.
LogicMonitor automatically populates search criteria from service member metadata, including IP addresses or IP ranges, URLs or domains, and autonomous system numbers (ASNs).- To specify additional IPs/IP Ranges, URLs/Domains, or ASNs, enter the values in the corresponding Additional… fields.
- In the Labels, Test names, and Test IDs fields, enter additional test criteria as needed.
- Select Find tests now.
Matching tests display in the Available tests table.

- In the Available tests table, enable the tests to include in the service.
- Expand an Experience Test and enable or disable the metrics that contribute to service health.
Note: You cannot disable Test Time or % Availability. Disabled metrics do not contribute to service status but continue generating alerts in Digital Experience and displaying in Member and Test Alerts.
- Select Finish.
The service is created and displays in the Services tree.
After you create a service, you can do the following:
- Alert Tuning—Select Alert Tuning to configure or view alert thresholds for the service.

To view the service you created, select Go to Service.
LogicMonitor retains the Experience Test search criteria and automatically updates service associations when tests match or no longer match the configured criteria. You can review and modify the search criteria after creating the service.
