Scopes Overview
Last updated – 02 November, 2026
OpenTelemetry Metrics scopes provide attribute-based access control for OpenTelemetry metrics. A scope defines the metrics that users can access based on metric attributes and values.
You can organize scopes into a hierarchy and assign scope access through roles. Scope access also applies to related OpenTelemetry Metrics functionality, including dashboards and alert configurations.
General Considerations for Scopes
The following considerations apply to OpenTelemetry Metrics scopes:
- The company scope is the root of the scope hierarchy.
- A scope hierarchy supports up to four levels, including the root scope.
- LogicMonitor combines the rules of a child scope with the rules inherited from its parent scope using an “AND” operator.
- When you have scope access through multiple roles, LogicMonitor combines the access granted by those roles.
